Saraki says clueless investors bought over Nigeria’s power sector   	 					 				 		     Senate President Bukola Saraki on Tuesday criticized how the power sector was privatized, saying it was sold to individuals who had no idea about how to run it, . He said the mistakes of past governments “born out of ignorance, selfish interests and fraud”, brought Nigeria to this point. Saraki said this at a workshop on the power sector organized by the national assembly in Abuja. He lamented that the sector, in spite of the enormous resources committed to it for the last 14 years, had remained in a perilous state. “This is the opportunity for both the legislature and executive to come together to forge a solution to this perennial problem. We cannot afford to waste the opportunity we have now” he said. Emphasizing that the problems in the sector were the country’s own making, the senate president said sacrifice must be made to overcome the challenges. ...

You are selfish, only think of your families – Sanusi blasts Nigerian leaders         The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, has slammed Nigerian leaders for being self-centred. According to him, most Nigerian leaders only thought of their pockets and families. “The bane of leadership in Nigeria is that the leaders are selfish; they only think of their families,” he said. Sanusi made this observation while speaking at an award ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday. He noted that most leaders no longer think of those that elected them into office but their families and interest. “Those of us who think that public office is a place to enjoy ourselves should think again. “Poverty, lack of education is violence; it breeds violence because many segments of the society are denied access to basic amenities,” he said. He called on those in power to start thinking of how to empower other persons instead of enriching their pockets. The Emir ...

We have discovered ways to reduce price of food items – FG        The minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbe, said on Wednesday that the federal government has adopted some models to reduce the price of food items all over the country. Ogbeh revealed this while addressing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC. Just last week, a task force was set up to find solutions to the rising price of food items in the country. According to Ogbe, the committee had identified that the hike in cost was “not due to shortage but high cost of transportation.” He noted that the high cost of diesel used by huge trucks to move food items led to the high price of food items. The minister said the government had decided to “start using railway wagons to transport food items.” He noted that the transport system was already being used for transportation of cattle and will be replicated for food ite...
