3 dead, many injured as luxury bus plunges into Lagos river   A fully-loaded luxury bus plunged into Owode river in Lagos State Friday morning. The bus carries plate number Anambra GDD 386 YE DAILY POST gathered that three of the passengers were killed on the spot. Many others have been rescued from the river. The luxury bus which was coming from the south east is owned by GUO Transport Company. Rescue efforts are ongoing. Our correspondent received photos of the accident from Ohi Odiai, Head of News, City FM Lagos.

Many Feared Dead As Boko Haram Engages Army in Battle        Maiduguri — Dozens of boko haram members including innocent civilians were feared dead in a crossfire that ensued between military troops and terrorists, most of whom were suicide bombers who attempted to infiltrate Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. Sources have said. The multiple incidents started at about 11:30pm on Thursday, when a female suicide bomber sneaked into a convoy of vehicles waiting for military escort to Gamboru Ngala on Friday morning, which later followed with sporadic exchange of gunfire and sound of explosions around Muna garrage general area of the metropolis. Unconfirmed report also has it that six members of civilian JTF sustained critical injuries while attempting to repel the attacks.

Appeal Court Rules on PDP Leadership Tussle Today        The Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt will today deliver judgment on the leadership crisis that has almost torn the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) apart since May last year. BREAKING: House of Reps member, Bello Sani is dead         Member representing Mashi/Dvisi federal constituency of Katsina state in the House of Representatives, Bello Sani, is dead. The legislator, believed to be 51 years old, reportedly died on Wednesday. According to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, the late Bello was compassionate, principled, and interacted freely with all members. While announcing the death, Dogara said: “With great sadness, I receive the news of the death of Hon.          Reps bemoan economic situation                          The House of Representatives has said the prevailing economic situation is unacceptable and has given a three-month deadline for a reversal of the situation. JAMB to begin sale of 2017 UTME form        The Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Tuesday hinted that the body would soon commence the sale of the application form for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME). . Oloyede said an estimated 1.7 million candidates are expected register and sit for the Computer Based Test (CBT) across the country, adding that they are also increasing the capacity of the CBT centres to maximise their effectiveness to examine more candidates within a given date. Senate queries Lai Mohammed over poor IGR from culture, entertainment         The Senate on Tuesday subjected Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed to intense questioning over poor revenues generated from the culture and entertainment industry. At a budget defence session with the minister and other officials of the ministry, the Senate committee on Culture and Tourism declared that it was unfortunate that the ministry presented only N620,000 as total revenue generated in 2016. Chairman, Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, noted that the budget should not only be about expenditure but also about revenue profile.  He said the Senate was displeased with the paltry revenue. Why Babangida, Atiku met in Minna           A former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, and a former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have met in Minna, the Niger State capital, Tuesday. Paul Ibe, Mr. Abubakar’s spokesman, said his principal paid a courtesy call on Mr. Babangida to check on his health. Mr. Babangida returned to Nigeria penultimate Sunday after seven weeks on medical vacation in Switzerland. Mr. Abubakar had to pay him a visit to check on him and see how his recovery had been, Mr. Ibeh said. “Don’t forget, he visited the families of Abdulkadir Kure when he died a few weeks back,” Mr. Ibe said. “But IBB was not around then so he had to return to Minna now that the former leader is back from medical trip.” Mr. Kure was a former governor of Niger State who died on January 8 at 60. Mr. Ibe said Nigerians should not read any further meanings to the courtesy call.

Corruption: FG begins verification of real owners of companies, businesses        In line with the anti-corruption crusade of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has revealed plans to introduce companies register that will show the real owners of investments and businesses in the country. I would resist payment if I don’t have electricity – Fashola        The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said he will be resistant to payment of electricity bill if there is no supply. The former Lagos governor said this on Monday at the 12th Monthly Power Sector and Stakeholders’ Meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, hosted by Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IEDC. Power generation in the country has taken the downward trend in recent weeks after hitting the 4,000 megawatts mark in December last year, with many consumers without prepaid meters complaining about over-estimated bills despite the epileptic supply. Woman 'gave birth to GOAT after two-year pregnancy' with gruesome video released to back up bizarre claims            A woman has given birth to a goat after a two-year pregnancy, Nigerian media has claimed. The woman, who was unnamed in the coverage, was reported to have being pregnant for two years and went to a community centre for help. A free medical treatment clinic had been set up by a local pastor and the woman's labour was apparently brought on. Crowds gathered to watch with local media reporting an infant goat-like animal covered in a pool of blood on the concrete floor. Nigeria govt appoints new prosecutor for corruption trial of Supreme Court justice           The Federal Government has appointed Olufemi Fakunle of the Federal Ministry of Justice as the lead prosecutor in the trial of Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, a Supreme Court Justice who is standing trial for alleged corruption. At the resumed hearing on Monday at the Federal High Court, Abuja, Mrs. Fakunle announced appearance as the new head of the prosecution team following the withdrawal of the former head of the team, Charles Adeogun-Philips. Shortly after announcing her appearance, Mrs. Fakunle made an oral application seeking an adjournment of the case, to enable her to study the file and also interview the witnesses. Two feared killed as NURTW, tricycle operators clash      No fewer than two persons were feared killed and several others injured after members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and tricycle operators clashed in Abule Egba, Lagos on Saturday night. The bloody incident has forced residents of Owode Street and environs to flee their homes over fears of a reprisal attack. Alleged corruption: Niger Assembly sacks two council chairmen Niger State House of Assembly has removed two chairmen, in a month, for   alleged embezzlement. Chairman of Suleja, Alhaji Ahmed Dikko and that of Katcha, Alhaji Mohammed Dogo Liman are the two councils chairmen who have so far been removed from office on allegations of financial misappropriation. Last Friday, the assembly asked Liman to refund N23 million he allegedly embezzled after an investigation committee it set up indicted him of shady financial dealings.
